DAURA AGOG AS 200 COUPLES WED!

Daura, the cradle of Hausa tribe in Sub-Saharan Af­rica, was thrown into a festive mood recent­ly, as thousands of people from Katsina and Kano States converged on the ancient city to witness the mass wedding ceremony of 200 couples.
Residents of Daura and its environs trooped to the epoch-making event in their numbers. The Juma’at Mosque at Low Cost Housing Estate, Daura, came alive on that day, as the bridegrooms, old and young, were ushered to the worship centre.
The joy of the men, who came with their friends and relatives, knew no bounds, as they excitedly exchanged banters while they wore pleasant faces.
Excitement swept through the densely filled praying ground when it was announced that the exercise was about to commence under the leadership of Katsina State Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bidi’a Igamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan.
The rare feat was shouldered by a philanthropist and former director in the Federal Civil Service, Ummaru Abdullahi, fondly called Tata.
Abdullahi, who was also the Waluyi of the brides, paid the dowry of N20, 000 to each of the brides. He provided the clothing materials for each of the brides, apart from the bed, set of chairs, room divider, ward robe, television and DVD sets and the start-up capital each couple received from him.
The new couples also smiled home with bags of rice, maize, millet, cartons of Spaghetti and cooking oil while light refreshment was provided for those present at the event.
The philanthropist told the elated gathering that the wedding ceremony was organised in Daura for widows and single mothers in Daura Senatorial Zone. The entire arena erupted in shouts of praise when he announced the package for the less privileged couples.
Abdullahi, who urged the grooms to exercise the fear of Almighty in their marriage lives also warned them against unnecessary divorce.
The chairman of Katsina JIBIWIS, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan, extolled the virtues of the philanthropist and described the event, as an avenue to assist the less privileged.
The cleric called on other well to do Muslims to emulate the philanthropist and urged the new couples to always seek religious knowledge to ensure a blissful marriage.
Also in attendance was a former chairman of Daura Local Government area, Abba Mato, and the chairmen of JIBIWIS and Da’awah groups, Imams, members of the business and political class among others.
