A 38-year-old suspected ritualist Bola Fagbemi and 3 others have been held by police operatives attached to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos State. Bola was arrested at her home at Alagbodo area of Lagos State.
Narrating how she and members of her gang trade in human parts, Bola said: “I am 38 and I started work in the hospital on February 6, 2014. I am from Osun State. I was given the baby to throw away, so I gave it to Taofeek. I met him at Algbado area where I live.
“Taofeek has been coming to me for parts of dead babies. At first, I refused, but I was forced to succumb to his pleas by my financial situation.
My house rent was due and my children school fees had not been paid, so when he approached me last year, I had no other choice but to do his bidding.
He paid me N15,000 for the first dead baby which was delivered to him. I did not steal the dead baby, it was the mother who gave it to me for burial.”
She added that she sold the body of the dead child without the mother’s knowledge.
In his statement, Taofeek Abidakun, admitted he’s a spiritualist.
On how the suspects were arrested, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, said the arrest was based on an intelligence report which had Abba Kyari as its officer-in-charge of SARS in charge of the ongoing investigation.
Manko disclosed that Bola Fagbemi and Miss Yinka Lasis, who work in Ikeoluwa Trado-Medical Clinic at 31, Kayode Olaniyan Street, AIT Road, Ayetobi, Alagbado, Lagos were arrested.
Also arrested was one Rilwan Saula, an Alfa, who is the co-leader of the gang. The self-acclaimed reportedly negotiates with the nurses for babies.
