IG’S SON DECRIES SECURITY SITUATION, TERRORISM!

Jamil, son of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has decried the security situation in the country.

Jamil, who is a commercial pilot with IRS airline, stated that is heart was troubled each time he thought of the security challenges facing the country.

Writing on his Twitter page, the Computing Information Systems and Multi-media graduate of Kingston University, London, United Kingdom wondered why peace has continued to elude many communities and states in the country.

He noted that “sentimental and selfish reasons” are some of the factors responsible for the worsening state of insecurity, adding that he wished that there was peace in all the geo-political zones.

Jamil, however, said that despite the inability of the Federal Government to quell the insurgency, he would not lose hope the Nigeria of his dreams.

“My heart weeps for my country. Good or bad, rotten and spoilt, but that is my country. I am so proud of my fatherland. May peace reign again in our great nation, Nigeria. Every sentimental or selfish reason shall go in vain. May we become strong every day,” Jamil tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Navy has observed that politicians in the country must also be held responsible for the worsening security situation.

It accused “prominent individuals” of making inflammable statements that could destroy the fragile peace currently enjoyed in the country.

The Navy said, “The current security challenges bedeviling the nation should not be perceived as a challenge that should be tackled by security forces alone

“Prominent individuals should desist from inflammable utterances that could breach peaceful-coexistence in the country.

“Some disasters can be avoided through basic precautionary measures as well as timely information to security agencies.

“Citizens should be conscious of their responsibilities in providing timely and useful info to relevant security agencies.

“Information on suspicious movements of individuals or groups and strange objects should be reported to security agencies.”

The Navy insisted that the Nigerian military services were capable of containing the menace posed by the Boko Haram insurgents.

It noted that a new Chinese-built BigFoot MRAP Armoured Personnel Carrier, deployed to the frontlines in the North East, will boost the war against terror.

“The military is more equipped and well trained to curtail the activities of insurgents,” the Navy wrote after posting the picture of the new military hardware.

Meanwhile, the “Bring Back Our Girls” group has said that it is still awaiting the return of the abducted pupils of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.

The group said it appeared that the security agencies in the country had no idea what to do to remedy 

the worsening security situation.

The group wrote on Twitter that despite its dwindling membership, its advocacy for the safe return of the girls would continue.

It said, “This insurgency is everywhere. The government is not doing anything. It is one killing over another. Besides, while we wait for the return of our Chibokgirls, many other girls are still being kidnapped.

“It was the security challenge in the North East, the Chibok girls that made us rally together, yet we are faced with additional security challenges

“Though our membership may dwindle, we stand resolute in our demand. Our advocacy stands, it continues, we’re ambassadors of the cause. We shall not relent until our girls are back and alive!

“We’re all adults and we’re here on our own volition. We are not going to retreat or surrender. We won’t sit back like other Nigerians.”

But the National Orientation Agency explained that the Federal Government will make the necessary sacrifices to rescue the kidnapped girls.

The NOA urged Nigerians not to “dance to the tune” of the terrorists but to remain united and collaborate with all agencies of government to stamp out terrorism.

“We should raise our flag and our hearts in patriotic zeal to affirm that as a people we will not dance to the tune of our enemies. We should remain united. At this time in our nation’s history, a question is asked of us – What price are we willing to pay for the peace and prosperity of our nation?” the NOA said on Twitter.

The agency also asked Nigerians to support government’s efforts in building an efficient national identity management system as a means of checking terrorism.

“The NOA Board endorses National Identity Management Commission. Citizens are encouraged to get registered for improved national identification management system,” it added.
