7 Emirs Flee Their Palaces Over Boko Haram Insurgency!

The rate of Boko Haram attacks in Northern Nigeria has forced 5 of the 8 first-class traditional rulers in Borno State out of their palaces to avoid being killed by the insurgents. Going by reports, 2 other monarchs in Yobe State have also been displaced as their domains have been taken over. In Borno,the emirs affected include Shehu of Dikwa Muhammad Ibn Shehu Masta and Emir of Gwoza Muhammadu Ibn Mustapha Idrissa Timta, and Emir of Bama Kyari Ibn Ibrahim El-Kanemi.

Other displaced senior traditional rulers in Borno are Emir of Askira Abubakar Ibn Muhammad Askirama and his counterpart Ali Ibn Isma’ila Mamza of Uba, who fled following security reports that their towns might be targeted. The only first-class traditional rulers still living in their respective domains in Borno are Shehu of Borno Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi, Emir of Shani Nasiru Muhammadu Mailafiya and the Emir of Biu. Some of these emirates have also lost kingmakers, district heads, ward heads, village heads (Lawanai), ward heads (Bulamas) and district heads (Aja/Hakimai) to the Boko Haram insurgency.
