LAGOS BUTCHERS SUSPEND OPERATION ON FRIDAY!

There will be no fresh meat to eat in Lagos State on Friday.

This is because the Lagos State Butchers Association had ordered its members across the state to stay off all markets on the day.

The body said instead of going to markets, the butchers should honour one of their founding fathers by attending his burial in the Oshodi area of Lagos.

The deceased, Alhaji Abdul-Raimi Balogun, will be buried on the day, according to the butchers’ association.

A statement by the chairman of the meat sellers, Alhaji Bamidele Kazeem, and its Patron, Alhaji Sulaimon Afuwape, directed members to be present at the burial, holding at the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Secretariat, Oyetayo Street, Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos.

It advised the public to stock some meat in advance as they would not get fresh meat in the market on the day.

The statement by the body read in part, “As the Ipesa-Balogun family of Oshodi, Lagos, holds the final burial ceremony of their late father, Alhaji Abdul-Raimi Balogun, this Friday, the Lagos State Butchers Association has directed its members across the state to stay off all markets on the day in his honour.

“We hereby declare September 12, 2014, as a work-free day to all our members in Lagos State to honour and perform Fidau prayer for our founding member, Alhaji Abdul-Raimi Balogun.

“We implore the general public to note that fresh meat will accordingly not be available on the day.”

A treasurer of the association between 1995 and 2004, Alhaji Balogun, who is also the father of Afeez Ipesa-Balogun, erstwhile Chairman, Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, operated as a butcher at the Bolade, Oshodi Slaughter Slab, beside the Ikeja Military Cantonment on relocation from the Ogungbaye Slaughter Slab, Awolowo Market, Mushin, until he passed on June 7.
