MEET PETROLEUM MINISTER, DIEZANI’S BROTHER WHO IS A PASTOR

Not many know that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke (nee Agama) is an Ijaw princess from Bayelsa State. Her father was His Royal Highness, Chief Frederick Abiye Agama, the Ogbotom Edede of the Epie-Atissa Clan in Bayelsa State, while her mother is HRH Chief Beatrice Agama (nee Porbeni). Her maternal grandfather, Chief Nelson Kemeninabokide Porbeni, was the Etonkepua of Kabowei Kingdom, and the Ododomedo of Asideni in Delta State.  The Agama scion is Bishop Doye Agama who was born in Shirley, Southampton, England in the mid-1950s. A man of many parts, he is a former Telecommunications Consultant to the Oil Industry, Central and Local Government and the Emergency Services. He first started work as a teaching assistant in 1973, and has also been involved at various times in Community Development and Regeneration work since 1975. He has had a practice background in PRINCE 2 Methodology and OJEC Tender processes, and a good grasp of Strategic, Program, Project, Operational and Financial issues. He has over twenty years of very wide experience in the offshore oil industry, the UK Public and Charity Sectors, including: IT System Engineering/Administration, Team Leadership, Project Management and Consultancy.

He has worked at local and regional levels for some of the biggest charities in the United Kingdom, including NACRO and Community Service Volunteers. Coming to clergy ministry late in life, he was first ordained in 2004 and became a Pentecostal Bishop just ten years later. He is frequently called upon by Churches, Charities, Central and Local Government, the Emergency Services and other organisations in the United Kingdom for advice (and training) on community relations. He also aims to bring Christian (and other Religious Leaders) together with Civic and Business Leaders, for community benefit. He is a former Member of the Council of Manchester Cathedral and Director and Trustee of the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility, ECCR (2009 till 2011). He served four years as a member of the Valuations Tribunal (2008-2012). He also served for several years as a Forcewide Chaplain to Greater Manchester Police Force, and is a former Member of GMP Independent Advisory Group, North Manchester Division. In early life, he had also previously worked as a Documentary Film Maker, Actor and Jazz Musician, and has also run innovative alternative education for “NEET” those otherwise not in employment, education or training.

He has attended various Middle Level and Senior Management courses over the past 30 years. He is a current member of Chatham House (The Royal Institute of International Affairs), and is Alumni of the Experienced Strategic Leaders Programme of the Windsor Leadership Trust held at Windsor Castle (Spring 2011). Bishop Doyé is Alumni of the Cranfield University School of Management and a member of the Cranfield Management Association. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting and holds their highest Certification, the CMC. He is currently an Associate Member of the UK Restorative Justice Council and a Member of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies. In addition, he holds the BA Theology (Church Admin & Dev) 1994, and MA (Pastoral Counselling) 1996. He has been honoured with Doctoral Degrees (Honoraris Causa) from Italy and the United States of America. He has been a member of the IEEE, British Computer Society, British Institute of Public Sector Management etc.He is also a member of several Christian and cultural charities. He has been married to Rev (Mrs) Helen Agama for over 30 years. Together they have 5 children and several grandchildren; and have helped start community outreaches for thousands of younger people across Greater Manchester and the UK. They are also Co-Pastors at Way of Life, in Moston, North Manchester. His hobbies include walking, visiting historic buildings and reading good books.
