SCOTLAND REJECTS INDEPENDENCE, TO REMAIN PART OF UNITED KINGDOM
British Prime Minister David Cameron congratulates Better Together head Alistair Darling via a tweet: “I’ve spoken to Alistair Darling — and congratulated him on an well-fought campaign,” while Scotland’s First Minister and the leader of the “Yes” campaign, Alex Salmond congratulates “Commonwealth city” Glasgow on Twitter for the its overwhelming support of independence. With all but 3 councils declared, “NO” leads 55.4% to 44.6%.Scotland’s has rejected independence in Friday’s referendum count, with declared local authority areas so far choosing by to stay within the U.K. by around 55%. The 307-year-strong union seems to have survived, although increased powers will be devolved to the territory.
