However, his normal gesture probably got on the nerves of one of his fans when he posted a picture of himself close to one of his cars, a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, on the social media with the caption, ‘Can’t go broke no more, I lost the ability to go broke.’
The fan described the singer, a stingy person making reference to a day he saw the singer at a visa office in France. The fan claimed that the singer refused to give money to his fans, who appreciated his work and decided to vent his anger via instagram.
He posted, “Why you too dey stingy Timaya. Last time you come VFS visa application centre for France, you no even fit drop change for your fans wey say dem believe you. F**k you & your money.”
The singer replied the fan asking if he was the one that brought him to Lagos calling him a fool and an idiot.
Timaya said, “Na your papa carry me come Lagos? Tomorrow if person go broke, na una go first laugh. Fool, no go work idiot.”
His reply propelled others to reprimand him, advising him to appreciate his fans better.
“Why are you sounding harsh to your fans? It is not fair please,” a fan commented.
Another posted, “You have time to insult people but you don’t have time to thank people that praise you. Please bro you can do better,”
“Giving back to the society is not a big deal but shouldn’t be by force, it should be free will. Using vulgar words as a celebrity is really uncalled for,” a commentator said.
The singer made it known that giving money to people was not a way of giving back to the society through his last comment on the issue on his instagram page.
“So dashing someone money on the street is giving back to the society? Do you know how many youths I took off the street?” he queried.
