Omotoke Makinwa is a popular radio presenter in Lagos, where she co-anchors The Morning Drive with Nanya on Rhythm 93.7 FM. But beyond that, this pretty and petite lady is a red carpet diva who gets invited to all the red carpet events across the country and she has anchored so many award shows and corporate events. And wait for this, Toke even gets paid, to attend some A-Class event because of the power her brand oozes.
Call her a big celeb and you won’t be wrong because everybody wants to associate with this lady who enjoys what she does for a living. Thats why she has become the 1st choice as anchor person for events these days. Though, she is a full time radio presenter at Rhythm 93.7, she presents two other programme, on Moments With Mo and Hip TV. And wait for this, Toke recently introduced her on-line blog called Toke Moments which has attracted a lot of followership across the world. What other things has she been up to? She spoke to an online magazine last week on what’s new with Toke.
What has changed about Toke?
Nothing ooo. I don’t think anything has changed. But then I have just gotten really busy and I hardly have time for anything and I am still the same old me. I still do my Morning Drive with Nanya. I am on the radio every morning. I now have a couple of TV shows that I have added to my radio job.
Which ones?
I am on the present season of Moments With Mo on Ebony Life TV. I also work with Hip TV as well. I have a programme called Trending on HipTV and I have my own on line blog as well called Toke Moments. And within all these I still find time to breath.
How did you come up with Toke Moments?
Its going to be 100 episodes in a couple of weeks. A friend of mine who lives in the United States called me up one day and asked me if I had ever watched someone called Jenny Marbles on Youtube. I didn’t even know the person. So, I googled the person and as it turned out she is the 3rd most searched person on Youtube and I absolutely fell in love with her. Because she has this five minutes clip of just talking about absolutely anything and it was funny and people subscribed. And I said to myself, you know what? I could do this because eventually I want to have my own talk show. And I said to myself when I was starting out then, how do I build the brand and build the name and gain the followers?
So, you know what I told myself, I am going to give this a shot and see how it goes and it has been tremendous. I go to places like Dubai, to South Africa and I run into people in the elevator and people who are not even Nigerians know who I am via Youtube. Its absolutely amazing. Its really humbling and people who are not even Nigerians are like oh my God, I watch you on Youtube. Its a good thing. Its a good feeling. And I thank God.
How have you been able to balance out all of these roles each week?
Well, everyday I have an headache I just have to roll with the punches. When you have to do stuff, you have to do stuff and when you enjoy what you are doing, then it does not seem like work.
You appear like somebody who enjoys what she does. Is that true?
Oh, I do. I am loving evening moment of it. I am young. I like to think that I am young. I only have the time now to do everything that I have to do now because one day the kids will start coming and I will have to repriotise. But for now I will say I am energised by my passion and I am fuelled by the passion that I have inside of me.
