“I Am Contesting For House Of Reps Seat” Says Former Ogun Speaker, Titi Oseni As She Opens Up And Talks About Her New Life @ 50

Nothing has changed about Former Ogun Speaker, Right Honourable Titi Oseni. She is still her tall and elegant self. And she still radiates the beauty she has always radiated years back. The big news right now is that Hon. Oseni is contesting the House of Reps seat in Ogun State  during the PDP primaries in November 2014. And this is authoritative. Last week, this  beautiful Egba woman told an Online Media Platform more about her 2015 plans. “Yes, I am running for public office,” she explained. “By the grace of God I am eyeing the House of Reps. I want to go to the House of Reps to represent my Abeokuta South Federal Constituency on the platform of PDP. I have consulted widely and I have received the blessings of my leaders and stakeholders.” She has also collected the party form and has begun wide consultation.

Asked what she has been up to since she left office in 2011, she said I have been running my private business. I have a thriving business outside politics. I do a lot of importation. I basically do importation of many products that I sell. But that has not killed my interest and love for politics.”

Three and half years she left office as Speaker not much has changed about Hon. Titi Oseni. She is still politically active and she has remained in PDP.

Interestingly, she does not keep only political friends; she has a lot of celebrities as friends. At her recent birthday bash a lot of society big wigs were in attendance. They all t roped out to support her. Though a lot of politicians attended the A-class party, it had a lot of movers and shakers in society in attendance. This is because despite her having been in public office in Abeokuta, she never forgot her friends who she began with in Lagos.

But now that politics is back, she spends more time with her political associates in Ogun PDP “I am gradually going back into active politics, though I never left. But the political climate is heating up. We are waiting for the President to declare for his 2nd term. Though he hasn’t, we know he will do that soon. We can read his body language. A lot is also happening in all the states as banners and posters of aspirants are now all over town. People are getting ready for politics.

And the primaries are fast approaching. For mine it is November.” Why is she interested in the House of Reps this time around?

“It’s because I have paid my dues at the state legislative level. I have served twice in my State House of Assembly. Now, it is time to move to the Federal level. It is a call to service. At the state level I have contributed my quota. I want to go to the Federal to make laws for my people, to empower and assist them contribute to the development of my state and the country at large. I have been tried and tested. The electorate has voted me in twice. They know me. They know they can trust me. All that trust will count for me. My people are calling for me. They want me to run. They want me to go and represent them.”

But will the age long fight in Ogun PDP not lead the party to doom again?

She was asked. “No, we have learnt our lessons,” she explained. “We are all going to work together. Senate President, David Mark is coming to settle all the rift in Ogun PDP. He is heading a committee to reconcile everyone in the South West. He is coming to Ogun State in the next few days. By the time he visit everybody will bury their differences and concentrate on winning the state back. Ogun State is a PDP state. The APC came in because of our internal rifts.” “Right now, for all of us, it is about coming together, it is about working together. We have to work together to deliver Ogun State for PDP. We have decided to work together and forge ahead together.”

What is her assessment of the present APC government in Ogun State?

“I really don’t know what to say. I really don’t know what to assess. Is it bridges alone? All you see are bridges. But at what costs? Is that the only thing about governance? Bridges and bridges at what cost? I go round and the people tell me they are hungry. That is why I have nothing to say. Let the masses of the people talk with their votes. I will leave it to people to appraise the present government with their votes. Ogun people asked for, let them say it with their votes. Let Ogun people judge and assess them. I know Ogun people are not happy. This is not what they bargained for.

They could do with a better deal. That is what I can also personally see.” But is she saying Gov. Amosun has not transformed Abeokuta, where she comes from for example?

“To an extent, yes. Yes, physically you can see some areas have been changed. But what happened to those who have been displaced, to those affected by the demolition? My family was affected too. At what cost? How has all these beautification put food on people’s table? What is the debt profile of Ogun State today? They are not telling us. How are we standing? Nobody will tell you. We are in serious trouble inn Ogun State. From what I can see all is not right. That is why all hands must be on deck to vote out these people who didn’t really campaign but came in because of PDP’s internal wrangling.”
