She danced for the likes of Shina Peters, Wasiu Ayinde (K1), Pasuma and some others. Kemi, who was heavily pregnant and formerly based in London and Italy for some years, 3 weeks ago at her wedding, granted City People an exclusive interview.

Tell us your name
Olukemi Mary Kayode Omotoyinbo.

You are very excited today…?
Yes O! Today is my marriage, I am getting married to the love of my life, Ikechukwu Eloanyi.

That is an Igbo name, where is he from?
He is from Enugu State.

And you?
I am from Ekiti State.

How did you guys meet?
We actually met abroad in 2013 before we came back home to getnmarried. I am based here in Nigeria while he is based in Italy. It was when I went for vacation abroad that we met.

What was the attraction when you first met?
(Laughed and very excited). Well, we started as friends while we were both in Italy. We actually met when I was in Italy. After a while, the affection started, he asked me out. I saw what I really wanted in a man in him. But I didn’t stress him much before I accepted him. As I said earlier, we started as friends, he was there for me, we talked a lot. IK, as I always call him, was always calling me, keeping in touch, he really made time for me, and what he told me made a lot of sense to me everytime. I was never lonely during our friendship, IK was always ever there for me. He told me many things about him, what so many men will keep away from you, even though he didn’t know me that much. He had that love for me, he was always telling me things. So, I was impressed and moved, because if a man can be that open to me, then what else do I need. Those were some of the attributes I saw in him.

For how long did you court?
We didn’t court for long, everything was just God’s way. It was all sharp, and fast. Remember, I said we met last year, for real, we met last year.

A case of love at first sight?
No, no, no! It wasn’t love at first sight for me, but I wouldn’t know about him, like I said, we started as platonic friends, I just liked him as a friend then. It wasn’t love at first sight for me.

…Well, he on his own said it was love at first sight for him
Okay! Maybe that was why he could tell me about his personal life, maybe that was why he really opened up to me, and told me about himself when we met. He really confided in me.

Do you know if he was married before meeting you?
Not at all. He’s a single guy.

Again, he said he met you in London while you were dancing for Pasuma on stage, but you said he met you in Italy
Yes, like I said, I am a professional dancer with many artistes. But when I met him, Pasuma wasn’t on tour, he had known me before I got to know him. Probably, he had seen me that day before he started asking me out.

Your husband said your dance steps attracted him to you that day
Laughed. Really? I do dance very well, and this has taken me to many places.
