SYNAGOGUE LAWYER WALKED OUT OF CORONER COURT, AS LAGOS GOVT. SAYS GUEST HOUSE HAD NO APPROVAL
A lawyer representing the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, Nelson Okedinachi, was yesterday walked out by the coroner, Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, over an attempt to stop the ongoing inquest. Okedinachi had come to inform the Coroner of a suit at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, seeking a restraining order against further sitting of the inquest. The lawyer said the suit filed at the Federal High Court had as defendants, the Lagos State government, Attorney General (AG) of the state and Magistrate Komolafe as the first, second and third defendants. Okedinachi also said the Coroner’s inquest was constituted by the Lagos State government after the agencies of the state government had indicted the founder, T.B Joshua and his church of wrongdoing by adding additional structures on the building without approval. The Coroner, who was however infuriated by Okedinachi’s claim, said except the Federal High Court grants the injunction being sought, its proceeding would continue. He then asked Okedinachi to leave the court room. “Mr Okedinachi, I hereby ask that you vacate this court room,” the Coroner said.
In a related development, the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Development and Urban Planning, Toyin Ayinde, said the collapsed guest house had no approval from the state government When cross-examined, Ayinde said he discovered that the collapsed building fell asymmetrically. “From the CCTV footage I watched, I discovered that the collapsed building fell asymmetrically. I can confirm that there are cases of induced demolition of a building. But I don’t have the competence to observe that the collapsed building fell at once. There was a report that the area was not monitored until the building collapsed. I saw a uniform movement of aircraft and not hovering. I didn’t see any aircraft move very close to the collapsed building. I cannot determine the distance of any of the aircraft that flew around the collapsed building belonging to the Nigerian Air force,” the commissioner said.
