Justice Saliu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, sentenced a man described as financier of Boko Haram sect to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour. The Boko Haram financier was said to have been the brain behind the international bond that the sect recently established with some foreign terrorist organisations. He was among four suspects – secretly tried before Justice Saliu Saidu by the Department of State Security (DSS). When the suspects were brought into the courtroom under heavy security, all other people in court were ordered out, except the lawyers and court registrars.
The suspects are Adamu Mohammed, Mohammed Mustapha, Bura Husseni and Mohammed Ibrahim. Journalists could not get details of the charges against them and other details about the conviction as no court official was willing to divulge the information. One of the suspects was convicted and jailed 10 years for sponsoring Boko Haram while the other three were discharged and acquitted by Justice Saidu. They were said to have been prosecuted by Mr P. Okerinmodu on behalf of the government.
