EX-FOREIGN MINISTER, ODEIN AJUMOGOBIA JOINS 2015 RIVERS GUBER RACE

The entrance of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, SAN may change the political permutation for the 2015 Rivers State gubernatorial race. Ajumogobia joined the race recently on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP). For those not in the know, Odein Ajumogobia was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He was admitted to Nigerian Bar July 1979, admitted to the inner bar in 2003 as Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

A brilliant scholar, he attended University of Lagos [LL.B Honours, June 1978] and won Faculty Prize for best results in final degree examination. Prizes for best over-all performance and subject prizes in first and second year examinations; Federal Government of Nigeria Merit Award for academic performance at the University of Lagos 1975 – 1976.

He was a member of the Paris based ICC International Court of Arbitration and ICC International Commission on Arbitration between 2001 and 2006. Mr Odein Ajumogobia entered public service, following his appointment as Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice between 2003 and 2007 and was appointed Minister of State for Energy (Petroleum) and Head of Nigeria’s delegation to OPEC (July 2007 to December 2008) and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources between January 2009 and April 2010.

He was subsequently appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on April 6, 2010 and served in that position until the dissolution of the Federal cabinet on May 29, 2011. Mr Ajumogobia has received numerous honours and distinctions and is the recipient of the LL.D degree (Honorary Causa) from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology and the National award of Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR).
