In Bauchi state, many people collected forms for various elective posts but virtually everyone knew where Isa Yuguda, the governor of the state stands in terms of who succeeds him. Yuguda had changed SSGs in the last couple of years on account of politicking and it is widely known that whoever is the SSG is the one who runs the state as the Governor moves round the world. The deputy governor is a mere stooge. And so when the last SSG was sacked months back and Aminu Hammayo was appointed, many thought that it was the immediate past SSG that would get the nod. This was not to be as Governor Yuguda was alleged to have told his SSG to resign and go and collect nomination form.Hammayo was once a banker with Unity Bank, like his incumbent boss who also came from a banking background to join politics. He was an Assistant General Manager with the bank till 2007 when he was appointed a commissioner by Yuguda. He has been with the government since then. In the course of 8 years, he has served as the Commissioner for Health, Finance, Budget, Economic Planning as well as Lands and Survey and later the Secretary to the State Government, SSG. Curiously, even while he was still SSG, he held the portfolio of Budget and Lands and Survey. The 49-year-old administrator and former banker hails from Misau in Bauchi State. His zone is yet to produce a governor since return to democracy in 1999 and this is one of the reasons he was chosen as the candidate to support by Isa Yuguda.
