Former Minister of State for Defence and 2015 governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Tuesday, revealed his dreams for greater Lagos if voted as next governor of the state. Obanikoro, who was flanked by his wife, Morufat, made this promise at the National Stadium, Surulere, while addressing a mammoth crowd of his supporters drawn from across the state.
The former minister, who highlighted the position of Lagos as an economic nerve-centre of the country, also assured of his government’s provision of “one million and one businesses because small businesses are the engine of our economy.” According to him, “This is because one broken down vehicle can delay traffic one kilometre behind by an average of 45 minutes, adding that the need for malaria centres was borne out of the fact that 70 per cent of all ailments in Lagos were malaria-related.
“My dream of new Lagos is where school children would stand shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts anywhere in the world,” he promised, declaring that any system of government that deprived the poor to pay the rich or deprived civil servants their leave entitlements for eight years was not worth celebrating. Lagos State should set good examples for other states of the federation, as it is now a state of burden with high rate of unemployment and heavy taxation. The major beneficiaries of government policies are the privileged ones and the affluent, billions of naira is being spent to build roads in areas where only the rich ones live.’’
