Following President Jonathan’s visit to Winners International headquarters today, there is an outrage over a statement credited to Bishop David Oyedepo. City People however has it on record that some of the lines made by Oyedepo were that, “Lord, we pray for our President.I pray that God will grant President Jonathan the unusual grace to meet the demand of his office. Father, by the blood of Jesus we blot out all the handwriting of the wicked against the forthcoming election in Nigeria. When God enthrones you, no one can dethrone you!”
Social commentator, Kayode Ogundamisi, however in a tweet claims Oyedepo had said, ““We will open the gate of hell on those who oppose you” Bishop David Oyedepo to President Jonathan as GEJ visits Winners Chapel.” The statement reportedly made by Oyedepo has generated reactions from Nigerians especially on Twitter:
Elnathan John @elnathan : If you promoted Father Mbaka’s message and you are condemning Oyedepo you need to think hard about your hypocrisy. There is room for change.
Gbenga Olorunpomi @GbengaGOLD: We have been living with poverty, corruption, polio, AIDS, etc for years. Bishop Oyedepo only wants the #GatesOfHell on GEJ’s opponents
abd’aziz bakare LP @Backarray : Bishop Oyedepo now holds the key to the gate of hell? This is interesting…
Brother Ebuka @ebuka_akara: Oyedepo should let GEJ know the church is run by powerful generating sets.
E-ccentric @godenema: Wow I don’t believe Oyedepo said that.
@dayoice: l I know Oyedepo would never say anything like dat, that man is exposed knows what right and wrong is
Engr.Tunde Orimidupa @blastedup: Let Oyedepo open the gate of hell for me for criticising him. Am no longer criticising GEJ. Let’s see who won’t make heaven btw me and him.
@Pr8nz: Even if David Oyedepo had said so, his Faith is big enough to carry it. The gate of hell would literally be opened on GEJ’s oppose
Osagie Reuben O. @benayomi: Was at the church when GEJ came to Canaanland. Oyedepo never said those words.
#StopImpunity|ajare @dejiajare : But it is worth drawing the attention of @chairmanNHRC to #NoHateSpeechNG, IMO the alleged Oyedepo statement is tantamount to a hate speech
PeaceInNigeria @Pr8nz: Won’t be shocked if Omojuwa started the Oyedepo gate of hell tweet. APC people would say anything to discredit GEJ.
Chijioke Kaduru, MD @dr_kaduru: It doesn’t matter that much what Oyedepo said it didn’t say. It will only matter if you practice that brand of religion.
