Operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State police command have arrested a University of Lagos graduate and 6 others over some car-snatching incidents in Lagos and Ogun states. The suspects were said to be responsible for the snatching of a car belonging to a journalist with Channels Television around OPIC area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
While the suspects were being paraded before newsmen, the Lagos State police boss, Kayode Aderanti said the arrested suspects took their car- snatching activities beyond Lagos and Ogun states to Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Edo states. The Lagos police boss said, “On January 17, a staff of Channels Television reported the snatching of her Sport Utility Vehicle at gunpoint around OPIC, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.Immediately the incident was reported, I ordered the officer in charge of the state SARS, Abba Kyari, to launch a massive manhunt on the robbers.Three of the robbery suspects were arrested in Ojodu and Ikorodu areas of Lagos. They were Maven Bali, Cheikube Emeka, Ejike Chukwuemeka, Nura Mohammed, Jacob Ali, Titus Johana, and Richard Augustine.”
One of the suspects, Chukwuemeka, who claimed to have graduated from UNILAG, said “I studied accounting from the University of Lagos in 2006 and after graduation, I worked briefly at the Apapa Tincan as a clearing agent. When the business was not going well, I travelled to South Africa in the pursuit of greener pasture.”Chukwuemeka, however, blamed his involvement in robbery on his relationship with a certain Emeka, whom he met while working at the Tincan Port in Lagos.
