Gunmen abduct petroleum minister’s 20-year-old cousin

Gunmen have abducted Mr. Bozie Agama, a cousin of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani-Allison Madueke.

The unidentified gunmen were said to have stormed the minister’s Yanaka community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by 12.05am on Thursday, abducting the victim.

It was learnt that when the gunmen stormed the community, they went straight to the home of their victim.

It was further learnt that the primary target of the abductors was Chief Monume, Bozie’s father, but had to settle for the 20-year-old man having missed their main prey (Diezani’s brother).

The gunmen were said to have fired warning shots into the air before whisking away the victim to an unknown destination.

A source, who did not want his name mentioned, said, “They (abductors) came in the midnight and took the man away. We understand that they wanted the father, but later settled for the son.

“They are relatives of the petroleum minister. We don’t know where they took him to and they have yet to state their motive.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Asinim Buswatt, confirmed the development.

Butswat said, “At about 12.30am on Thursday, one Mrs. Maxwell Agama of Yenaka community reported that his son, Joseph Agama, aged 20, was abducted by some unknown gunmen.

“We are still working to know the number of the gunmen that carried out the attack. We don’t know the motive behind it, but our men in the marine division have been alerted to the incident.”

The abduction of Bozie is coming barely five months after Diezani’s younger sister was kidnapped in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The minister’s sister, Osiyo Agama, was kidnapped in October 2014, and was later rescued by a combined team of Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield and Department of State Security Service.
