PDP candidate raises alarm over plot to replace him with ex-Minister’s son

A House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Mr Semiu Oganla, has raised the alarm over plot to remove his name as the candidate of the party, from the list with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Oganla, in a petition written to INEC, noted that his name was published in an approved list of the electoral body to contest as the candidate of the party in Abeokuta North House of Assembly seat in the April 11 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
He explained that he polled 70 votes out of 80 votes cast during the party primaries held on November 29, 2014, noting that his co-contestants, Olugbenga Adebayo scored 8, Eyitayo Soleye scored one vote, while the duo of Amodu Taofeek and Salau Modupeola did not participate in the election. It was gathered that the party had sought an order from Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos under Justice O.E.Abang, to replace his name with Eyitayo Soleye, son of former Minister for Finance, Onaolapo Soleye, who at the primaries scored one vote.
The party, in a motion of notice, suit number FHC/L/CS/347/12, claimed that Oganla’s name was submitted as a result of typographical error, hence, the request to replace him with Soleye. The motion on notice read, “An order correcting the typographical error in the names of candidates listed in the order of this honourable court made on the 15th day of December, 2014 by properly stating the names of candidates for the constituencies.
