In a bid to provide support for parents, especially women who have to be away from home on Saturdays, Adedoyin Okewunmi, an enterprising resident has launched D A S H ( D After School Hours) Place at Ijegun, Alimosho.
D A S H Place is a children play centre where parents can drop off their kids on Saturdays. At the centre, enrolled kids get to interact with others, play and learn together, improving their social intelligence at a tender age.
According to Okewunmi, a graduate of Lead City University who also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers Institute, “There are some parents that lock their children indoors when they want to go out on Saturdays; we encourage them to bring their kids here. We also encourage the kids to bring their homework as well, we use games, songs, and other outdoor activities to help them understand better.”
When asked why she decided to open D A S H place, she said “I just like working with children, I like being around children, people are always telling me why are you behaving like a child, and I have always loved Children.”
On projections for the future, she said “From here, we will progress to having a pre-school for after school hours during the week so that when their parents return from work, they can pick them up.”
It is hoped that centers like the DASH Place will help stem the tide of several unfortunate accidents, abuse and victimization that have happened to children who are left to themselves.
