As a prelude to his defection from the little known Progressives Peoples Alliance, PPA, Kalu’s mother, Elder (Mrs.) Eunice Uzor Kalu, who leads the Reality Organisation in the southeast, and Kalu’s brothers, Nnanna Uzor Kalu, a former House of Representatives member, and Mascot Uzor Kalu, fomer Chief of Staff to Governor Theodore Orji, have defected to APC in Abia State.
Kalu’s mother reportedly joined APC with her teeming supporters in the Reality Organisation.
Although sources said Kalu’s defection to APC is a mission accomplished, another source close to the former governor told P.M.NEWS on Wednesday morning that Kalu, who returned from the U.K. on Tuesday had not joined APC.
“But he will soon join since the defections going on are part of what the change is all about,” the source quickly added.
Sources said Kalu wants to consult widely before taking the decision. He is expected to consult with outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Mu’azu among others.
Although Kalu is the founder and leader of the Progressives Peoples Alliance, PPA, he alternates between PDP and PPA as member.
He had left PDP to form PPA due to grievances that PDP had not been fair to the Kalu family, especially Kalu himself, who was a major financier of the party but was de-registered from being a member of the party.
Currently Kalu is struggling to reclaim what he described as his stolen mandate in the Abia North Senatorial election held on 28 March.
The defection of members of his family to APC on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, was the high point of the visit of president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari to the state.
Buhari was also in the state to campaign for the re-election of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha on the platform of the APC.
It was touted that Buhari is a family friend of the Kalus and they want to do everything to support him to succeed.
