Calm as Nasarawa holds re-run election

Residents of Nasarawa State trooped out on Saturday for the re-run election for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in Ciroma ward of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

The election, was peaceful in most of the polling units.

Some voters who spoke with our correspondent at Mamman Yaro polling unit in Al-Makura street, expressed delight at the work rate of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission officials deployed there.

Another voter, Aliyu Abu, said most voters had envisaged a similar scenario of late accreditation and ineffective card reader situation that was experienced during the presidential and gubernatorial elections but were surprised to see that the situation was a different one.

He said: “Honestly we are surprised. As you can see, most of us here are just busy catching up on old times. We have been accredited since around 8am and nobody has complained about the card reader.”

At Damburam 2 polling unit, It was observed that security was beefed up to forestall any violence as accreditation continued there.

It was a similar situation at Ciroma 2 polling unit as many voters who had already been accredited sat under trees near the polling unit to socialise and wait for voting to commence.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa, Abdullahi Danyaya, had announced that the result of the first Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency election was inconclusive
