I made my first eba with ice water — Bolaji Rosiji

Former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Rosiji, relieves his childhood as celebrities join him to buty his mother, Mrs. Gbemi Rosiji, in Lagos, AKEEM LASISI writes

Celebrities that include veteran actress Joke Silva, her husband, Olu Jacob and Tee-Mac rose to celebrate with a former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Mr. Bolaji Rosiji, last weekend, when the burial ceremony of his mother, the late Mrs. Gbemi Rosiji, was held in Lagos.

With afro singer Seun Olota on stage, the event attracted many other dignitaries from different walks of life. Being the wife of a key player in the First Republic politics, the late Ayo Rosiji, the woman’s passage invoked a reunion of several old players in Nigerian politics. But the role that Bolaji Rosiji has been playing in Nigeria’s human rights circle and entertainment industry was somehow acknowledged and rewarded based on the impact of the presence of the divas.

The former PMAN president said although the deceased lived long, her departure no doubt brought some pain to him. According to him, the bond between a mother and a child is sacred, making such a final departure to be hard to bear no matter the circumstance. He, however, said the Rosiji matriarch left legacies that were enviable.

Rosiji said, “Mama led a good life. She and her husband worked closely with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to build a good heritage for Yoruba people and Nigeria in general. These were people who were genuinely committed to the development of the country and the fruits of their labour are visible everywhere.

“On a personal note, what I will miss most about her is the counseling she gave me even when I became an adult. But my fondest memory of mama is what she taught me when most of my elders were abroad. When they were in the UK, l was alone with mama. She taught me almost everything, including how to prepare different kinds of food, because she never liked lazy people. But I remember making my first Eba. It was with ice water and I was wondering why it wouldn’t come together. She just laughed it off. After that failed experiment, however, the lessons that Mama taught me have continued to prove useful to me.”
