Inside Ooni of Ife’s billion-naira business empire, Sijuwade Group + How his 1st son runs the company

Founded by Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, the Ooni of Ife, and his late brother, Prince Adedapo Sijuwade, Sijuwade Group commenced operations in 1975, as a single enterprise, under the name of Okunade Sijuwade Holdings Limited (OSHL). The first company was created with the aim of identifying and sourcing foreign direct investment into the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the country’s economic development.

Since the first company’s formation over 30 years ago, it has grown to encompass two holding companies, with interests and investments in various sectors of the Nigerian economy and has been restructured and re-branded as Sijuwade Group. The new group structure enables each subsidiary to focus on its core market area and to target and attract appropriate investors to its specific business sector. It also provides for a more efficient allocation and management of capital and other resources.

Sijuwade Group, with its strong knowledge of the Nigerian economic structure and Africa as a whole, has forged relationships globally, with multi-national corporations and governments of various countries, on which it leverages to attract inward investment and commitment into the Nigerian and African markets, fostering economic growth.

The executive team of the Group has over 40 years experience in commerce and industry in Africa, and works closely with a network of specialists, consultants and government agencies to identify the various needs of the Nigerian economy and other African nations. By marketing potential areas of investment to reputable international companies, Sijuwade Group has not only successfully secured foreign direct investment into various sectors of the Nigerian economy, but also partnered with several high net-worth companies and assisted their entry into this emerging African market.

The first son of Ooni of Ife, Prince Adetokunbo Sijuwade is the Group Managing Director. A graduate of Clark University, USA, with a double major in International Development and International Relations, Prince Sijuwade began his career almost 20 years ago, with internships at both the United States Chamber of Commerce (NY Office) in 1988, and Mobil Oil (NY Office) in 1989, before joining Coastal Oil & Gas in Houston in 1990.

Upon his return to Nigeria, he joined the Sijuwade Group, where he served in the capacity of Director for several years before being elevated to Group MD. An experienced player in the Nigerian private sector for over a decade, Prince Sijuwade has a proven track record for developing international business contacts and partnerships, and has been instrumental attracting several foreign blue-chip companies into the Nigerian market, including but not limited to, Centrica Plc. (UK), and CCC Contractors SAL (Greece)
