Former Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Pedro has appealed to the House of Assembly to revisit his impeachment by the Fifth Assembly in 2007. Pedro was impeached by the Assembly towards the end the tenure of Bola Tinubu as governor. To this end, an 8-member ad-hoc committee has been constituted to review the circumstances that led to Pedro’s impeachment.
This is following an appeal made by the former deputy governor in a letter read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Mr Ganiyu Abiru. The ex-deputy governor urged the House to revisit his impeachment in a compassionate manner. The Clerk said Pedro attached his resignation letter from office in 2007 to his appeal letter.
In his contribution, Mr Rotimi Olowo (APC-Shomolu I), urged the Assembly to reverse the impeachment. He argued that the tone of the letter showed that the former governor was remorseful of his action while in office since the purpose of the impeachment then was not based on fraud or criminal tendencies.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa constituted an eight-man ad-hoc committee headed by the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade. Other members are: Desmond Elliot, (Surulere I), Folajimi Mohammed (Ikeja I), Muyiwa Jimoh (Apapa II), Kazeem Alimi, (Eti-Osa I), Shokunle Hakeem (Oshodi-Isolo I), Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa II) and Moshood Oshun (Lagos Mainland II).
