The Public Relations Officer in charge of Enforcement Operations at National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control(NAFDAC), Anslem Okonkwor has said the agency on Friday sealed up a popular Lagos mall for allegedly selling and distributing counterfeit wines and spirits. Okonkwor said the exercise was a routine one aimed at ensuring that products conform to regulatory standards.
According to Okonkwor, “There were complaints received about the sale of cloned wines and spirits in the mall and we went there to inspect. We found the products and seized them. The exercise was carried out by the regulatory officers from the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of the NAFDAC. The products were confiscated and evacuated from the outlet. The exercise was carried out at the Gbagada, Ajah and Isheri outlets of the store. Investigations will commence and the outlets will remain closed until we are through.”
In another development, Okonkwor said NAFDAC has reopened multinational confectioneries and food outlet, Chocolate Royale, which was sealed in May for illegal storage and use of expired ingredients and products in preparing food and confectioneries served to its customers. The outlet was reopened following the conclusion of the agency’s investigations.
