He was said to be carrying a female passenger who escaped death.
His death led to a protest by his colleagues, while his remains was deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue, Yemetu, Ibadan.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, simply identified as Kehinde, was said to have met his untimely death after being put under pressure by a taxi driver that was trying to escape being arrested by some Vehicle Inspection Officers.
His head was severed in the accident, while parts of his body were shredded by the impact of the crash.
A source said, “The Vehicle Inspection Officers laid a siege to taxi cabs beside two state-run shuttle buses. They pretend to check their papers, but the aim was actually to extort money from them.
“Kehinde had a female passenger and was on the other side of the road when a taxi rammed into him and pushed him into the path of the truck. The officers fled the scene immediately.”
Efforts to reach the Chief VIO, Michael Ajibola, proved abortive. He was said to be holding a meeting on the development.
