what they wont tell you about new Inec Boss, Amina Zakari

The recent appointment of Amina Zakari as the acting Chairamn of the Independent National Electoral Commission has continued to elicit comments from those who believe it was one of the best things done by the new Buhari regime while others believed that he was only playing to the gallery.

To those who see the move as one of the best, it was the first time a woman would be given the job and this is a pointer to the fact that the new government is gender sensitive and would ensure that women are given influential posts within the government. But those who have taken the appointment with a pinch of salt have claimed that from available records, Amina Zakari is due to retire on or before the end of July this year. How the President who recently appointed her would wangle around that no one knows.

Unknown to many people, the new INEC boss has a lot of interesting facts on her biodata. For instance, she is said to have finished elementary school at eleven and entered Queens College Lagos, where she spent five years for her secondary education. She also claimed to have entered the University at sixteen which is highly considered a misnomer at that age and time.

Amina Zakari is widely known to be close to Buhari and indeed, the President is known to be her godfather as she worked as Chief Pharmacist at Afri-Projects Consortium headed by the President’s late in law. Afri-Projects were the only consultants that handled all the major jobs that came out of PTF while Buhari was the head of the organisation.

Before her appointment, the new INEC boss served as a Secretary in the Health Services as well as Agriculture Departments of the FCT where she served under El Rufai who is now the Governor of Kaduna state.
