For his feat in
the just concluded Under 17 World Cup football competition in Chile where
Nigeria won the cup, Igbo resident in Lagos, western Nigeria, have concluded
plans to honour Coach Emmanuel Amuneke with a chieftaincy title.
The event will take place during the Fourth Igbo Cultural Day
slated for 5 December, 2015 at Bishop Aggrey Secondary School in Mushin, Lagos.
Three traditional rulers from the south east have been delegated
to come to Lagos for the conferment of the title on Amuneke. They are Igwe
Martin Ezeh, Idu of Igboukwu, Igwe M. A. Ohia, Ezeudo of Uzii and Igwe
Christopher Umeaniba, Igwe of Azigbo.
The six governors of the southeastern states and Ohaneze Ndigbo
leaders are expected to attend the event under the chairmanship of Chief
Ifeanyi Odii and Professor Tracie Utoh-Ezeajugh of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka as guest speaker.
Igbo cultural day is a yearly event organized by Ndigbo resident
in Lagos under the leadership of Eze Ndigbo in Mushin, Eze John Nwosu and other
igbo leaders in the state.
It is an event that brings sons and daughters together to
display Igbo cultural heritage.
Eze Nwosu said it was aimed at reminding the Igbo living outside Igboland that
they have a cherished culture that makes them great people.
He noted that some Igbo, especially those born outside Igboland,
do not know that those cultures such masquerades, traditional wrestling,
cultural wears among others do exist.
He said when they see those things, it reminds them of their
roots.
On the event, Nwosu said it was also a period the Igbo resident
in Lagos use to reward Igbo sons and daughters who have distinguished
themselves in their respective endeavours which impacted the society.
He said Amuneke has made Nigeria proud and as such the Igbo
decided to honour him.
Amuneke led the Under 17 Golden Eaglets team to represent
Nigeria in the World Cup football competition in Chile which Nigeria won.
