The police at the Lion Building Division, Campbell Street, Lagos Island, western Nigeria, have arrested a man, Durojaiye Seyi, 35, who claimed to be a musician, for allegedly posing as a naval officer at CMS bus stop, Lagos, a representation the police said he knew to be false.
Police investigation revealed that the suspect, a resident of 37, Baale Street, Igbo Efon, Lekki, Lagos, from Ondo State, was apprehended by a naval provost, Abrey Maisallah attached to the Naval Headquarters Annex, Moloney, Lagos at CMS bus stop, while sitting inside a commercial bus. When the provost asked the suspected naval officer to identify himself, according to the police, he allegedly said he was a naval officer. But when asked of his identity card, his office and the name of his commander, he could not provide any answer. The provost, who was said to be on a routine patrol in the area, promptly arrested him and took him to the police station.
Items recovered from him, according to the police includes, one navy beret cap, one belt and under wear, a pair of navy uniforms and sweater.
After investigation, the suspect was charged before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, on a count charge of felony, to wit; impersonation of a naval officer.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the magistrate Mrs. A. T. Omoyele admitted him on bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the matter till 30 June, 2014 for mention while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.
