Lasisi Iyanda
An official of the Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps, Assistant Inspector Lasisi Iyanda, has been
arrested and detained by the police for an alleged murder of an Islamic
Religious Knowledge teacher, Kamaldeen Muritala,32.
Muritala, who worked at Titilope Islamic
Comprehensive High School, Ejigbo, Osun State, was said to have been
stabbed in the neck by Iyanda on June 27, 2014 following an argument
between the duo close to the entrance of a hall where the National
Examination Council examination was taking place.
A statement by the Force Public
Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in Abuja on Sunday, said preliminary
investigation by police detectives from the Osun State Police Command,
Osogbo, revealed that the teacher died at Baptist Hospital, Ejigbo, from
complications arising from fatal stab wounds inflicted on his neck with
a jack-knife by the NSCDC officer.
Mba said following the death of
Muritala, students of the school attempted to raze down the NSCDC office
as well as those of other government establishments in the area, adding
that timely intervention of the police prevented further breakdown of
law and order.
Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of
Police, said, “The police high command commended the officers and men of
the Osun State Police Command for their timely intervention which
helped in the rescue of the 30-year old suspect, saved property from
being destroyed and calmed what might have turned into a major
catastrophe.”
The police spokesman admonished citizens
against taking the laws into their hands “no matter the provocation,”
promising that “justice would be served in this case.”
