"WHY WE SAID PROPHET IRETI AJANAKU WASN'T DEAD" -- CHURCH ELDERS!

Eleven months ago, when the death of Lagos Prophet, Ireti Ajanaku was announced, it was followed by controversies as regards where he died and whether he even died in the first place. Some even rumoured that he died at Gbongan, his home town and not Lagos. Penultimate week, elders of the Christ Revival Church International addressed happenings in the church. Below is an interview the elders of the church granted the press.

Why his late Prophet Ajanaku’s burial delayed for 11 months?
When we look at it, we believe he is not just somebody we will carry out his burial plans just like that. We are talking about a hero and an icon. As a church, it was a very serious shock to us. We are just trying to come over the shock. So we decided to take our time.
Who is the General Overseer of the church now?
In this church, there is hierarchy . We have the General Overseer who is Prophet Ajanaku and Mummy as the assistant, so she automatically becomes the overseer.
But you said her husband is not dead during Ifemide album launch?
There is nothing God cannot do. When you look at the time Ifemide launched her album, we believed anything could still happen. Whether we lay the body to rest or not, Ajanaku lives on. May be that was what she meant by that.
How will you handle the occult angle?
He is not a member of any ocultic society. You will see his body intact. All the rumours, on occult, let them come out as a group and make it public if he belongs to the group. They should come out to say it. His body is intact. If he belongs to that group, they would have removed something from him.
Where did he die, Lagos or Gbongan?
In Lagos but we should ask the press where the story of Gbongan came from.
What is your take as regards the family’s stand on the burial seeing that there was controversy between the wife and the family when he died?
One thing I want you to know is that as a church, we are always at peace with one another. We are in peace with immediate and extended family. There is no controversy anywhere. We have been holding several meetings together. When you are talking about properties, everything belongs to the church. The house is a mission house and the cars are all official cars.
What of the money in the account?
Christ Revival Church International owns everything.
Has the church made peace with Tope Alabi?
If you talk about peace among two parties, is any of the parties involved ready to make peace? I know my Daddy very well that he didn’t fight with anybody. Lots of things you read were because he is so open with everybody and he likes outsiders a lot.
What is Tope Alabi’s role in the burial?
When you are looking at Tope Alabi’s issue, Prophet Ajanaku still remains Daddy to Tope Alabi. You can’t expect Daddy to begin to beg a daughter. Daddy tried a lot for Tope Alabi. Picking her from nothing to something. So, it is not Daddy or church members that will beg somebody that has fully benefitted from a man of God. Even when one is 18 in Nigeria, you become an adult, if Tope Alabi who benefitted from Daddy decides that she wants to be herself, we wish her best of luck.
Can you please clear the air on the first wife, how many jobs he did and was he a member of Elegun family in Gbongan?
Talking about all the jobs he did before being a Pastor, it is an open issue. When you get a copy of his CD you will hear him saying that himself. That is his testimony. He said he was a bus conductor before. Those ones are not hidden. But what is the relationship between what he did and his pastoral work? On the wife issue, you will know if there is any of such. For the Elegun, we all belong to one family that has culture.
What will the ministry miss about him?
A lot. Prophet Ajanaku was a cheerful giver. You must feel his impact in your life. He was very accommodating .
Is his shoe not too big for her to wear?
What is the size of the shoe? She is very capable. She is spiritually sound. She has all it takes to wear her husband’s shoes.
Elders of the church were reported to have left, for how long have you been serving in this church?
Let’s clear the air on the Elders who have left. It is normal. Even Jesus had Judas. It is not about how long but how well. I am the head of ushers. We don’t miss any Leader who left. Their seats are not vacant. Some left because their source of income was gone.
