Following recent arrest and rustication
of cult members from various tertiary institutions as a result of
anti-cult groups who act as informants to security operatives,advocates
of anti-cult activities who have been at the vanguard of the struggle to
rid campuses of higher institutions of cult groups are fast beating a
retreat having been at the receiving end of the numerous bloody attacks
of cultists.
According to reports, a student leader at the University of
Abuja,Chibuzor Okereke,who headed an anti-student cult campaign,was
stabbed to death by suspected cultists while another anti-cult
activist,Ayodele Afolabi of Benue State University was abducted by
suspected cultists recently – his corpse was later found in an
uncompleted building in Gboko,Benue State.
Another incident was that of 22-year-old Michael Agbo who was killed in
place of his brother by suspected cult members after destroying his
parents’ home in Ita-Oluwo,a suburb of Ikorodu,Lagos State.
It was learnt that on the fateful
day, about 8 cultists stormed the deceased’s family home looking for
Emmanuel Agbo as they held the occupants hostage,vandalized the house
and eventually shot Michael Agbo.They later cut his right hand and
slashed his body with cutlass. In a related development, at a
traditional marriage ceremony between one Mr.Chijioke and one Miss
Tochukwu in Alaoji village,Obi Ngwa,Abia State,suspected cultists
stormed the venue and abducted the groom who was said to be the family
of the leader of anti-cult campaign organisation.
