ACE COMEDIAN, ALI BABA: “30 HURDLES FACING NIGERIAN MUSICIANS”

Multi-talented award-winning comedian-cum-compere Atunyota Alleluya Akporobomerere aka Ali Baba took to Twitter early today to address an issue he themed ‘Hurdles of Musical Artistes’. In a series of tweets, Ali Baba highlighted reasons for these as: “Unprofessional Artiste Managers. Peer Pressure.Poor Or Lack Of Investment Of Their Windfalls.Illiteracy As Evident In Lyrics.Illiteracy As Evident In Signed Contracts.Piracy And Its Consequent Toll On Their Product Sales.Wrong Life Partners.Misplaced Priorities. Stagnant And Undeveloped Talents In A Dynamic Industry.Inability To Play Any Musical Instrument.Bandwagon Syndrome. Not Cutting Clothes According To Their Cloth.Alcohol And Substance Abuse. Thinking They Have Arrived When They Are Making Pitstops. The Absence Of Professionally Structured Record Companies…. I Repeat, Record Companies… Not Record Labels. Failure To Learn From People Before Them.Reversal Of Roles… Platforms That Should Pay Artistes For Use Of Their Work, Now Demand Money From Them. They Are Still Considered To Be In An “Informal Sector”. The Justice System Has Not Helped Their Cause. Poor And Undeveloped Support Structures. Failure Of Security Agencies To Enforce The Law On Copyright Infringements.Absence Of Camaraderie.Musical Associations Failed Their Members. Many Musical Awards Were Commercialized.Inability To Perform Live..”
