BOLA SHAGAYA BUYS PRIVATE JET AS 55TH BIRTHDAY GIFT

Kwara State born Hajia Bola Shagaya will in a few day’s time, join the growing list of Nigerian socialites shutting down cities with their birthday bash. Not known to do things is half measures, the business woman who will be 55 come October 10 is leaving no stone unturned to throw a very private but classy shindig, most likely in the capital city where she is based. But unlike her fellow socialites, Hajia Shagaya plans to take her celebration a notch further with the unveiling of her new toy which she recently just acquired – a private jet, a gulf stream to be precise. Regarded as one of Nigeria’s most liquid women, Shagaya’s legendary sartorial style and elegance was brought to the fore when she unveiled her condominium estate built with royalty in mind, in one of the plush places in Abuja, a few years ago and strictly occupied by diplomats, expatriates, and top government functionaries. Regarded as one of the closest friends of Nigeria’s first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Bola’s foray into the business world began when she quit her banking career which she began in the audit department of the Central Bank of Nigeria to venture into the importation and distribution of photographic materials. She it was who introduced the Konica brand of photographic materials into the Nigerian and West African market. The managing director of Practoil Limited, one of the largest importers and distributors of base oil in Nigeria, serving local lubricant blending plants, she is currently on the board of Unity Bank Plc, a member of the recently inaugurated Nepad Business Group, Nigeria, a patron of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, (FADAN), and a fashion enthusiast.
