On behalf of the entire FCMB Group Plc, I congratulate HRM, Alaiyeluwa Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of the Ijebu Kingdom; the Ojude Oba Festival Organising Committee; Otunbas and Chiefs of Awujale; and all indigenes, friends and well-wishers of Ijebuland on this year’s Ojude Oba Festival. For all true sons and daughters of the great Ijebuland, the Ojude Oba Festival is more than an event for us. It has become a yearly tradition we look forward to as a unifying factor. For over a century, the Ojude Oba Festival has been an important avenue for promoting a rich cultural African heritage to the global stage.
FCMB has been a major supporter of the Ojude Oba Festival for more than a decade and it has indeed been a mutually beneficial journey. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, we realize that globalization and social transformation, though essential, could also become a threat to the cultural identity of a people. We also recognize that respect for our heritage is important as a catalyst of cultural diversity and a guarantee of sustainable development.
For FCMB, the Ojude Oba Festival is a major platform through which we carry out our CSR initiatives, with a key focus on Economic Empowerment. The annual display of rich cultural heritage via the Festival attracts tourists from across the globe and Ijebu indigenes in the diaspora, boosting trade and the hospitality sector in the region. The event remains a unique platform for the locals to promote their wares to a broad range of visitors thus promoting economic growth and stability.
We are particularly content and committed to the longevity of the Ojude Oba Festival, and proud to be associated with its grandeur. Long live our King! Long live Ijebuland!
Otunba Michael Olasubomi Balogun, CON, founder, FCMB Group Plc; the Otunba Tunwase; the Olori Omo-Oba of Ijebu; the Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians; the Baba Oba of Ijebu-Ife and the Asalu Oba of Ijebu Mushin.
