Malala,17, wins 2014 Nobel Peace Prize

Pakistani children’s rights activist, Malala Yousafzai, has been awarded the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, today (October 10).

At just 17, she becomes the youngest to win the prestigious honour. She shot to prominence after campaigning for girls’ right to education led to an assassination attempt two years ago.

In a statement, the Nobel Peace Prize committee said:”Despite her youth, Malala Yousafzai has already fought for several years for the right of girls to education, and has shown by example that children and young people, too, can contribute to improving their own situations”.

Inaugurated in 1901,the prize comes with $1.24 million (N198 million) honorarium.
