SEE HOW EID-EL-KABIR FESTIVITIES TURNS VIOLENT ON LAGOS ISLAND

The Eid-el Kabir celebration turned violent on Sunday morning in Patey Street, Lagos Island, Lagos, after some hoodlums attacked the residents.

It was gathered that prior to the attack, the youth on the street had converged on the community square to celebrate Sallah at about 12.30am.

The residents claimed the hoodlums came from neighbouring Lafiaji community, adding that while the violence lasted, two people died.

It was gathered that several others at the community square were injured. It was learnt that policemen from the Adeniji Adele division later brought the situation under control.

A resident, who identified himself as Alamu, said the hoodlums used the opportunity of the festive period to catch residents unawares.

He said, “The party was a night party. It was the normal Sallah festivities. At about 12.30am, we suddenly began to hear gunshots. Of course, the party scattered as everyone ran for safety.

“However, two people were hit during the attack, while some others got injured. Some people have fled from the street since then.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said 14 suspects had been arrested by the police.
