Tucked in the highbrow New Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital city, is the beautiful home of Emeritus Professor Muyiwa Awe, and his lovely wife Professor Bolanle Awe, foremost prof. of Oral History. Entering their home, one is taken away by the lovely landscape of beautiful flowers and works of arts around the house. As a retired professor of Ionospheric Physics, Emeritus Professor Muyiwa Awe is one of the best brains this field has ever produced. A true believer, who is deeply religious, he didn’t quickly come across as an octogenerian as he walked graciously into the sitting room.
In this exclusive interview with City People’s Online Editor, KIKELOMO IWAJOMO, the University of Ibadan/University of Cambridge Emeritus Professor (Pastor) Muyiwa Awe who clocked 82 years on Thursday, 13th November 2014, speaks on life as a young boy at the Government College Ibadan, what led to the formation of the Pyrates Confraternity, his marriage, and his new life as general overseer/senior pastor at the Fullness Of Christ Evangelical Ministry(FOCEM).
How did you find God the first time, and then became born-again?
That happened at a ministration the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E A Adeboye, came to conduct at the University College Ibadan(now University of Ibadan). He used to visit the university every month to hold a seminar, and on this particular one where I got born-again, the theme of the 3-day event was the Holy Spirit.
I attended the first day which was a Thursday and as he was speaking,I just began wondering whether I had read all the things he spoke about from the Bible, and whether I didn’t have a good understanding of what I was reading. It was quite a change. It was in 1991,and I usually say I was 58 going to 59 years old at the time. So you know that I wasn’t a young person and I wasn’t immature.
Was it an altar call?
Yes it was.
