WHY SEGUN OSOBA MOVED PARTY MEMBERS OUT OF OGUN STATE APC

As All OGUN National Assembly Members & Others Joins SDP

Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former Ogun Governor and APC’s former chieftain has been busy over the last 2 months moving round all the nooks and crannies of Ogun State on a sensitization campaign, selling to voters his new political party-the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and converting all his loyalists across the State to SDP. That is why when you drive through all the villages and towns across the state right now you will see the evidence that a new party, the SDP, is fast becoming the political party to embrace. So evidently present is SDP in many villages right now that new converts are pasting the SDP posters on the walls of their houses. Last week, the crisis rocking the Ogun APC took a new turn when Osoba, the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, and all the National Assembly Members left the APC fold for the SDP.

The declaration was made by Osoba unofficially last week Monday. Their defection was the fallout of the wide difference between the Osoba Group and the group loyal to the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun over control of the party structure in the state. The Osoba group came out worst hit in what could be termed a supremacy battle between it and the faction of the APC loyal to the Governor. At the last state congress of the APC, the Osoba and Amosun groups held parallel congresses and produced parallel State Executives leading to the intervention of the National Secretariat of the party. However, the decision to support the Amosun group by the National Secretariat has led to the decision of the Osoba Group to leave the party in protest.

All efforts to reconcile the factions by national leaders of the APC have proved abortive and the group finally concluded plans to defect from the APC and to SDP. Osoba defected alongside Olusegun Adesegun, members of the National Assembly, including the 3 Senators representing the state, Alhaji Adegbenga Kaka, Akin Odunsi and Gbenga Obadara. He also moved into the SDP alongside Ogun members of the House of Representatives like Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, Bukola Buraimoh, Adekunle Adeyemi, Olumide Osoba and Babatunde Ogunola. Three members of the state House of Assembly who are Osoba’s loyalists that also defected were Honourable Elizabeth Anifowose, Femi Allen-Taylor and Daisi Elemide.
