6 Deputy Governors Lose APC, PDP Gubernatorial Tickets

Six deputy governors have failed in their bid to win the tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the parties primaries conducted in their respective states. They are Mukhtar Aliyu Shagari (Sokoto), Musa Ibeto (Niger), Iganatius Longjan (Plateau), Dameshi Barau Luka (Nasarawa), and Steven Lawani (Benue). Former deputy governor of Adamawa State Bala Ngilari, who recently became the governor after his boss, Murtala Nyako, was impeached, also failed in the race. The deputy governor in Kebbi State Ibrahim K. Aliyu is unsure of his fate as the primary in his state was stalled due to crisis. Of the eight deputy governors who partici-pated in the governorship races, only two – Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano) and Mr David Umahi (Ebonyi) – got their parties tickets for the February 28 governorship polls.
