A housemaid identified as Juliet has escaped with her boss’s 2 children from their Gateway Crescent home in Magodo, Isheri area of Lagos State on Sunday night. The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said it has started search for the fleeing maid and the children aged 3 and 15 months old. The kids’ parents have only just recently employed the maid. One Darlington who identified himself as a relation to the kid’s parents alleged that the mother of the children left them in the care of the maid, their sick grandmother and her nurse when the kids’ mother, Mrs. Onajite Esharegharan, and her husband, Elvis, had decided to go for a shopping on the fateful day in celebration of the latter’s birthday.The maid took the kids away after the elderly woman and her nurse had gone to bed. All efforts to reach her or the agency by phone proved abortive.
It was gathered that Onajite secured the service of the fleeing housemaid last Tuesday through a sale portal where a visitor, identified simply as Omolade, advertised . Omolade had allegedly posted a number on the website for those who were interested in a “humble” housemaid to apply ─ an advertisement to which Onajite responded. It was learnt that Omolade eventually took Juliet to Onajite’s office. Kenneth Nwosu, the Police Public Relations Officer, said: “The situation is rather unfortunate and traumatic. The parents reported the incident to the police and we are in search of the missing persons. We are making every effort to apprehend the fleeing maid and rescue the children. It was during our investigation that it was revealed that the maid was recently employed. The sad thing is that the parents of the children actually contracted the maid without verification. At the same time, we have expanded our dragnet”.
