Ex-Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemukpolo a.k.a Tompolo, has dismissed reports that he owns the newly-acquired warships. According to him, the reports are attempts by politicians to tarnish his image ahead 2015 general elections. Tompolo said the boats were acquired from the Norwegian government with the assistance of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for policing the nation’s waterways.
Spokesman to Tompolo, Paul Bebenimibo, said: “I am not surprised that this blackmail is coming at this crucial time that Nigeria is facing serious security challenges, even as the most decisive moment for the nation, which is the 2015 elections gets closer. For one ,the initial reaction was to ignore this cheap blackmail and forge ahead with personal commitment, but the propensity with which these lies are daily peddled requires that a bit of clarification is given to the Nigerian public.” According to him, the boats have been in the possession of the NIMASA in the last two years, adding that the boats in question were neither warships nor gunboats.
