Unlike some other artistes, Brymo was not born with a silver spoon. The 29-year-old artiste left school to pursue a career in music and has had some success in the industry.

Sometime ago, the multiple award winner bought the 2010 Toyota Camry.

The car’s base model comes equipped with a decent array of standard goodies.

The 2010 Toyota Camry is a midsize four-door sedan offered in four trim levels – base, LE, SE and XLE. The base Camry comes with a four-cylinder engine, while the other trims offer a choice between the four-cylinder and a V6.

The base Camry features 16-inch steel wheels, air-conditioning, a six-speaker CD audio system with an auxiliary input jack, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, full power accessories and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The Camry LE adds keyless entry and an eight-way power driver seat.

The SE offers a 17-inch alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension; special interior and exterior styling details. The luxurious XLE reverts to the LE’s softer suspension settings and 16-inch wheels while providing an upgraded JBL-branded sound system with an in-dash CD changer and satellite radio. It has Bluetooth phone and music connectivity. Also available on the XLE are automatic dual-zone climate control, a power passenger seat, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, reclining rear seats and a moon-roof. The V6 model of the XLE offers leather seating.

Notably, most of the XLE’s upgrades are offered on the lower trim levels as options. Other major options, depending on trim level, include a sunroof, a navigation system, keyless ignition and entry and heated front seats.

The main controls are large and logically placed, and the wide seats easily accommodate most body types.

Performance

The three trims of this model are front-wheel drive, and the standard engine on base, LE and XLE trim levels is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 169 horsepower, offering more power and better fuel economy. The SE receives an improved version of the same engine. A six-speed manual transmission is standard in most of the trims but the automatic is optional.

Fuel economy is estimated to be 22 miles per gallon in the city, 33mpg on the highway with the manual transmission, while the automatic dips to 32mpg on the highway, which is slightly better than most 2010 midsize cars.

Optional on all models except for the base Camry is a 3.5-litre V6 that cranks out 268 hp. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission choice. It can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds, yet fuel economy remains impressive at 19mpg/city and 28mpg/highway.

Safety

Every 2010 Toyota Camry comes with seven airbags; driver, passenger, side head, rear head, front-seat side, full-length side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. It also has standard electronic stability control and antilock brakes with brake assist. Other safety features include daytime running lights, child safety locks traction control and emergency trunk release. In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Camry earned perfect five stars in all frontal and side impact categories. Its refined character is also bound to appeal to families looking for a soothing vehicular escape from the daily grind.

The good: It offers spacious cabin and extraordinarily refined and fuel-efficient V6 engine. It also boasts of excellent crash test scores, plain exterior styling, and a smooth ride.
