European Union Deploys Personnel To Observe 2015 Elections In Nigeria

Election monitoring team from the European Union (EU) have been deployed to Nigeria ahead of the country’s general elections.
This was made known in a statement signed on Tuesday by the Press and Information Officer, EU Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM) in Nigeria, Mr. Eberhard Laue.
He said the personnel were deployed on Election Observation Mission for the forthcoming presidential, National Assembly, governorship as well as state Houses of Assembly elections slated for February 14 and 28, 2015.
Laue stated that the deployment was at the invitation of the Nigerian government, adding that the mission would assess the elections against national law and international principles for elections contained in regional and international law and standards.
Laue said the EU EOM is led by Santiago Fisas Ayxela, a member of the European Parliament, from Spain, who is expected to land Abuja later this week.
