Boko Haram insurgents have killed more than 500 people in the north Cameroon town of Fotokol, killing residents in their homes and a mosque. Many of the dead were found with their throats slit, according to Cameroon’s L’Oeil du Sahel newspaper.
Disclosing the number of victims murdered by the insurgents late last night on Twitter, Chief Bisong Etahoben (tweeting from @ChiefBisongEta1), a Cameroonian international investigative journalist/traditional ruler, said, “More than 500 bodies counted so far after Boko Haram massacre in Fotokol. And the counting goes on, according to a military source.” Earlier yesterday, Etahoben had hinted that, “Final body count of those slaughtered by Boko Haram in Fotokol WILL shock the world!!! The counting just began.
“Guibai Gatama of Oeil du Sahel is just reporting that BH is slaughtering people & burning houses in Fotokol while Cameroon army reinforces.A desperate Boko Haram seems 2 be embarking on a scotched earth policy in Fotokol as they slaughter, burn and loot. Fierce fighting between Cameroon army and Boko Haram for last 4 hours in Fotokol”.
