The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, says it has rescued a kidnap victim from kidnappers’ den.
In a statement on Tuesday by the Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, JTF, Lt.-Col. Ado Isa, the outfit said the kidnappers had abducted one Mr. Julius Omeregie on Sunday.
He said the incident took place at Okhuaihie community in Uhumwode Local Government Area of Edo State.
Isa said, “The victim and his family of five were abducted in his Honda CRV, but the abductors later abandoned the vehicle with the family members before whisking the victim away.
“On getting the information, troops of the JTF in conjunction with the Nigeria Police and local vigilance group went after the hoodlums. One of the kidnappers was killed during a shootout between the troops and the kidnappers. The victim was, however, rescued alive.
“A pump-action gun with 10 rounds of cartridges were recovered and handed over to the JTF, while efforts are on going to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
The coordinator also said the special squad of the JTF recovered arms and ammunition from the sea pirates that attacked its troops on January 8, 2015.
He said the recovery was the aftermath of a cordon and search operations conducted by the 146th Battalion of the task force.
He said during the operation, one AK-47 rifle was recovered together with two magazines loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition each.
According to him, other items discovered are parts of two AK rifles with 13 rounds of 7.62mm special.
Isa said, “These items were declared missing after the attack on troops at Patrick waterside. A speedboat powered with 75 horsepower engine suspected to have been used by the hoodlums during the attack was also recovered around Bobo water side jetty.
“No arrest was made while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and recover more arms and ammunition.”
In another development, he said troops of the Sector 2 anti-illegal oil bunkering and oil theft operating alongside Directorate of State Security Service discovered and destroyed two illegal oil distillation camps around Akassa 06 and 103 Cawton Channel 2 in Rivers State.
