Nigeria’s Defence Minister and National Security Adviser are brothers-in-law

Colonel Sambo Dasuki(retd.), the National Security Adviser(NSA), is one of the sons of former Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki. Sambo Dasuki is a cousin to the Sultan of Sokoto, Nigeria’s highest Muslim spiritual figure. The Dasuki scion is a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Security and Minting Corporation during the regime of late General Sani Abacha. He attended both American Universities, Washington DC and George Washington University where he obtained a BA in International Relations and MA in Security Policy Studies respectively.
As for Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau(retd.), he is a former National Security Adviser(NSA). The retired army officer has been a key player in Nigeria’s intelligence network for over 30 years. He was the NSA during the re­gime of General Ibrahim Ba­bangida and also served in the same capacity in the civilian administration of Chief Oluse­gun Obasanjo. The Defence Minister is married to Hajia Jamila – one of the daughters of His Eminence Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki – who is a sister to the National Security Adviser(NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki.
