One of the numerous political interest groups campaigning for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election, Mass Movement for Goodluck, has said it would henceforth use its structures to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari.
The group which was formally received into the APC fold by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawan Shuaibu, at the weekend, said its leadership met after considering the rot in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and decided to sway its support to the APC presidential candidate.
Speaking on the reasons for making the move, the group’s National Coordinator, Mr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, said it found out over time that the PDP leadership had become inaccessible.
He said one of the frustrating experiences of being a member of the PDP was that young people usually found it difficult to grow or to access leadership opportunities within the party, adding that “leadership can only be effective when it is accessible and the led is also catered for.
“It is evident that the PDP has barricaded itself against the people it intends to lead and have no answers to their survival and future livelihood.”
According to Ibe-Kalu, the group with over three million membership base nationwide and in the diaspora, has decided to transit from being Mass Movement for Goodluck to Mass Movement for Buhari (MMB) and to join forces with the APC campaign train across Nigeria and the diaspora using its unique campaign strategies.
While welcoming the support group, Senator Shuaibu, described the action of the group as very epic and very phenomenal.
“In politics, perception is very important. The simple fact that a group working for Jonathan has now moved to APC is an addition to the value of our campaign.
On the chances of the opposition party after weeks of campaigns, Shuaibu said APC stands a very bright chance of wining the elections if it is held any time from now.
Regarding the alleged bias over the distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), the party chieftain said APC had also suffered from the discrepancies of the collection of PVCs in its strongholds
“Our chances are very, very bright.
Actually, l have never gone to a campaign that amazed me and actually made me feel l had won election than the one we did.
“We are actually complaining. The worst state is Lagos in terms of the collection of the PVCs. Is Lagos a PDP state? That is our strong hold.
Kano and Lagos are our many strong holds.
Check out how many per cent of collection in Lagos State.
“So whatever they are saying regarding arrest, my question would be arrest who? If Jega commits an offence by breaking the law l am not going to vouch for him.
I am not holding forth for anybody, but if it is for the voters’ cards that they are saying that it is tilting towards us, we are equally complaining,” he said.
